Never thought of the double bass as a virtuoso instrument, nor heard any works by Giovanni Bottesini?  Now is your chance!

Dorking Chamber Orchestra is delighted to be showcasing local musician and talented 17-year old Yehudi Menuhin School student, Nathan Perry, in Bottesini’s fabulous double bass concerto.  The composer contributed much to the development of bass technique and this is a rare chance to hear this astonishingly versatile instrument.   2021 marks the bicentenary of the birth of Bottesini, who in his time was regarded as the Paganini of the double bass.

The concert, to be conducted by Andrew Morley, includes the playful Overture in the Italian style by the young Schubert as well as Beethoven’s groundbreaking 2nd symphony.

The concert starts at 5.30pm, and ticket prices are £15, £7 for students and free for under-16s .  It is part of the Mole Valley Arts Alive festival, and the orchestra is supported by the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust.

Please note that members of the audience will be encouraged to maintain a reasonable distance between social groups, and to wear face coverings at least for entering and moving around the church.
